New hybrid vessel to strengthen marine monitoring in Teno-Rasca

The Canary Islands Government is adding a 14-metre vessel to support environmental monitoring and enforcement in the marine protected area off south-west Tenerife.

Environmental monitoring and enforcement in the Teno-Rasca marine area will be strengthened with a new hybrid vessel. The Canary Islands Government presented the unit on 28 August to improve species monitoring and protection across this protected stretch of sea off south-west Tenerife.The vessel is 14 metres long and 4.35 metres wide. It combines conventional engines for demanding journeys with electric propulsion during inspections, reducing underwater noise and allowing teams to work with less disturbance to cetaceans and other sensitive species. The announced investment totals EUR 1,194,000.The vessel is intended for surveillance, research and environmental enforcement. The official announcement does not introduce new restrictions, booking requirements or access changes for marine activities or visitors to the Santiago del Teide coast. Any later operational changes should be checked through official channels.
