AD Boat Rental Silver 555 sailing off Los Gigantes

Renting a boat and heading out on your own is one of the most popular ways to see the Los Gigantes cliffs from the water, without depending on a guided tour’s schedule. AD Boat Rental operates from Los Gigantes marina, the area’s reference operator, with three boats depending on experience and group size. Before booking, there is a regulation change worth knowing about.

The regulation change arriving on 1 October 2026

An amendment to Royal Decree 875/2014 removes, across all of Spain, the option of hiring and skippering a rental boat yourself without a boating licence. Until 30 September 2026 nothing changes; from 1 October, anyone wanting to take the helm will need their own boating licence, and anyone without one will need a boat with a professional skipper. The licence-free exception remains only for private (non-rental) use on boats up to 5 metres and 15 HP. If you plan to rent without a licence, book it before that date.

Which boats you can rent

Silver 555 (licence-free)

Up to 6 passengers, 5 metres long. From €240 for 2 hours up to €450 for 6 hours. This is the option to take the helm yourself with no boating licence, available only until 30 September 2026.

Saxdor 200 Sport (own licence)

Up to 6 passengers, 6 metres long, with GPS, shower, sunshade and bathing ladder. From €300 for 3 hours up to €650 for a full day. Requires your own boating licence, unaffected by the new regulation.

Charter (with skipper)

Up to 9 passengers, 8 metres long, with a professional crew, GPS, bimini top, fridge and Bluetooth speakers. Book it as a private charter, from €600 for 3 hours, or by individual seat. Requires no licence from whoever books it.

What people who have tried it say

On Tripadvisor, AD Boat Rental holds a 5.0 out of 5 rating from 10 reviews, all rated «Excellent». Comments repeatedly highlight three things: the good condition and cleanliness of the boats, friendly and professional staff during the safety briefing, and no hidden costs in the final price. Several reviews from first-time renters note that handling the boat was easier than expected after the initial explanation.

1

Decide if you need a licence before booking

If you book before 30 September 2026 and have no boating licence, the Silver 555 is your only option without a skipper. After that date, without a licence you will need the Charter with skipper.

2

Book ahead in high season

The fleet is limited; check the availability calendar on the official website before fixing the rest of your day.

3

Check the cancellation terms

All three options allow free cancellation up to 48 hours before departure — useful if sea conditions change.

4

Plan for parking

The meeting point is at Los Gigantes marina, where parking fills up by mid-morning. Check our Los Gigantes parking guide before heading down.

Renting a boat or joining a guided tour

If you want to see whales and dolphins, or would rather not handle the boat yourself, a guided whale-watching excursion may suit you better than a rental. If you are unsure between kayak and boat in general, see our kayak or boat in Los Gigantes comparison.
