Charco de Las Bajas
A natural bay formed by old lava flows, on the Puerto de Santiago seafront, one of the largest and deepest natural pools in the municipality.
Charco de Las Bajas is a natural bay formed by old tongues of lava that flowed into the sea, on the Puerto de Santiago seafront promenade, behind the Hotel Barceló Santiago. Turismo de Tenerife groups it together with the pools by the Puerto Santiago square, on the same stretch of coast.
At 56 x 130 metres and up to 5 m deep, it is one of the largest pools in the municipality, with a pebble bottom. Steps lead down from the promenade and, unlike other pools in the area, it can be reached at any tide; however, rough seas make it a dangerous place to swim. Only go in when the sea is calm.
