From fishing village to the municipality’s fastest-growing centre
Puerto de Santiago developed in a small cove protected by a natural breakwater, one of the most important natural shelters on Tenerife’s west coast. Its origin is tied to fishing, which gradually gave way to tourism in recent decades. Unlike Los Gigantes, whose registered population has fallen, Puerto de Santiago’s population grew from 3,491 in 2000 to 5,566 in 2020, making it the municipality’s most populated village.
The Fisherman’s Museum
The Fisherman’s Museum pays tribute to local fishing tradition with over a hundred models of historic ships, decorated by artist Bernard Romain. It is one of the municipality’s most distinctive cultural stops and pairs well with a walk along the seafront.
